Lil Yachty took viewers on a trip during Saturday Night Live on April 1.

For his musical guest debut on the iconic sketch comedy show, the 25-year-old rapper — who appeared on Billboard ‘s cover in March — performed a pair of tracks from his mind-bending psychedelic album, Let’s Start Here ., which dropped earlier this year.

‘SNL’: Watch Lil Yachty Perform ‘the BLACK seminole.,’ ‘drive ME crazy!’

By William Vaillancourt

William Vaillancourt

Lil Yachty opened his Saturday Night Live musical guest debut with “the BLACK seminole.,” the first track off of the album Let’s Start Here , which came out in January.

Yachty’s performance featured singer-songwriter Diana Gordon, and the pair–along with a full band–appeared on stage in what resembled a nighttime Florida swamp.

Watch Lil Yachty Brings ‘Let’s Start Here’ Vibes to Saturday Night Live

Justin Ward

One of my favorite albums of recent is the breakout from Lil Yachty that everyone-except-Pitchfork raved about, Let’s Start Here . On last night’s Saturday Night Live, the psychedelic warrior brought two of the tracks from the album to the studio 8H audience and the national audience.

He chose the two most accessible songs from the LP, “the BLACK seminole” and “drive ME crazy!” which you can watch below.

Watch Coachella 2024 live: Stream sets from No Doubt, Ice Spice, more

There's something for everyone with the reunion of No Doubt, Blur, Ice Spice, Sublime, Victoria Monét, and tons more.

The second weekend of Coachella kicked off Friday, but you don't have to head to the California desert to catch favorite performers, reuniting bands, and the buzzy sets everyone will be talking about. The festival will stream performances from various stages Friday through Sunday, which you can watch right here.

Whether you're hoping to see Lana Del Rey , Blur , Doja Cat , or the No Doubt reunion, each set from six of the festival's eight stages will be live on your phone or in your living room.

Here's how to stream the second weekend of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which starts Friday, April 19 at 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET, as well as details on when to catch EW's most-anticipated Coachella sets .

John Shearer/Getty

How to stream Coachella online

Anyone heading to Coachella must spend time mapping out the sets they'll catch since artists perform simultaneously on different stages. It's the same deal for anyone watching Coachella at home.

Six stages will stream live on the festival's YouTube account — all available at the bottom of this post. Viewers have to pick and choose the sets that are absolutely essential, moving between the stages just like attendees. However, for the first time, YouTube is offering a multi-view stream. It allows viewers to watch four sets simultaneously with the ability to move between the audio from any of those four streams. Though, multi-view will only be available through the YouTube app on TV.

If you miss a set, each day's stream will start over from the beginning on a loop until the following day's stream begins. See below for who is performing each day and how to tune in.

Who to watch at Coachella on Friday

Coachella doesn't start small — or do anything small, really. Lana Del Rey headlines the opening night, hitting the Coachella Stage at 11:20 p.m. PT. Though, there is plenty to get excited about earlier in the day. Lil Uzi Vert will grace the Coachella Stage a few hours before Del Rey, with the Barack Obama-approved chart-topper Peso Pluma performing between them.

It's a big night for fans of female singer-songwriters. Unfortunately, there is a lot of overlap between the set times for Chappell Roan, Faye Webster, Brittany Howard , and Sabrina Carpenter , the first former Disney Channel star to have an official Coachella set.

Friday will also feature Justice closing out the Outdoor Theatre, for anyone looking to create an at-home dance party. They're preceded by John Summit and Dom Dolla's Everything Always project. So, it's a dance party all night. (Summit and Dolla will have individual sets later in the weekend.)

Also on offer is Ateez, the first K-pop boy group to hit Coachella. Another first happens shortly after the gates open when Cimafunk becomes the first Cuban-born artist to play Coachella. Elsewhere, fans can catch The Little Mermaid star Chloë Bailey , Deftones, Suki Waterhouse , Young Miko, and Tinashe .

Who to watch at Coachella on Saturday

While Tyler, the Creator headlines Saturday's sets — and always puts on a good show — the schedule is loaded with must-see performances. (During weekend one, Tyler brought out special guests Donald Glover, Charlie Wilson, and Kali Uchis .)

The biggest event of the day may be the reunion of No Doubt. Coachella marks the first time since 2015 that Gwen Stefani 's '90s alt-ska group will take the stage together. ( The band was joined by Olivia Rodrigo last weekend .)

The day also features Blur, Ice Spice ( previously joined by Taylor Swift ), and a special set from Sublime , the '90s Southern California group that had its legacy-defining moment before the 1996 death of frontman Bradley Nowell. They've since performed as Sublime With Rome, featuring vocalist Rome Ramirez. The final album of the "With Rome" era comes out soon, but the new era is already getting going. Original members Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson are reuniting with Nowell's son, Jakob Nowell, who will perform with them at Coachella.

French electronic innovator Gesaffelstein will close out the Outdoor Theatre on Saturday. He has a reputation for pulling out all the stops live, and his 2019 performance at Coachella is still talked about today.

Other enticing Saturday sets include Jack Antonoff 's Bleachers, Grimes , Jon Batiste , Orbital, Raye, and the buzzy U.K. group, The Last Dinner Party.

Who to watch at Coachella on Sunday

Coachella will not go out with a whimper. Sunday is another stacked day, that gives hip-hop fans a lot to love. Doja Cat headlines, closing down the Coachella Stage at 10:25 p.m. PT. There will also be sets from J Balvin (who was joined by Will Smith to perform "Men in Black" last weekend), Lil Yachty , and the newly-engaged Kid Cudi .

Victoria Monét , fresh off a Grammy win for Best New Artist, will get a lot of attention in a 6:55 p.m. PT slot on the Mojave Stage.

Mean Girls star Reneé Rapp will hit the Outdoor Theater at 5:05 p.m. PT after making a big splash weekend one, including bringing out Kesha to sing "TiK ToK" with the updated lyrics , "Wake up in the morning / Like, f--- P. Diddy!"

The day also features performances from Bebe Rexha , Tems, Taking Back Sunday, Jhené Aiko, Khruangbin, and Bob Marley's grandson, YG Marley, whose parents are Lauryn Hill and Rohan Marley.

Lil Yachty Shares New Track “Love Music”: Stream

Lil Yachty has returned with the new single “Love Music”. Just two months after his last mixtape, Michigan Boy Boat , the Atlanta rapper’s latest track sees him return to his mellower side. “Love Music” is a saccharine ode to a crush, backed by a calm guitar riff and simple beat that evoke Yachty’s early releases.

“I dreamed of you last night/ You had on a big ole gown and a wedding ring/ You were my wife,” Yachty croons in his signature mumble. “All I ever do is think of you/ Think of you and me holding hands.” Listen to the “Love Music” below.

The Michigan Boy Boat mixtape, Lil Yachty’s tribute to the Midwest’s burgeoning rap scene, arrived back in April with a stacked cast of features. He also appeared in the new season of fellow rapper Lil Dicky’s surreal comedy series, Dave . Yachty’s most recent studio album, Lil Boat 3 , came out in May 2020.

Lil Yachty & Kai Cenat Rep Matching Nocta Sweats On Joint Stream: Watch

Another day, another big collab for Cenat.

2022 YouTube Streamy Awards - Arrivals

Lil Yachty joined Kai Cenat as the latest big-name musical star to guest on the creator's stream. The two made a unique entrance, appearing on stream in matching Nocta sweatsuits. It's unsurprising that they went with the brand, given how close both men are with Drake .

However, it's just yet another massive link-up for Cenat. Earlier in December, a picture circulated online showing Cenat chilling with Travis Scott . While it's unclear if they've met previously, Scott did co-sign Cenat's plea to get IShowSpeed unbanned on Twitch earlier this year. The recent link-up has fans hoping that Scott will be Cenat's next big-name stream guest . While Cenat has been climbing the streaming mountain for years, 2023 has definitely seen him shoot into the stratosphere. This is especially the case in regards to the level of talent and fame that he is able to get on stream as collaborators.

Kai Cenat Pranks Rubi Rose, Corinna Kopf, And Pokimane

Furthermore, it's been a pretty busy few weeks for Cenat in terms of his content. To kick off December, Cenat took to his stream to buy counterfeit Birkins for three massive influencers. Cenat called up Rubi Rose, Corinna Kopf, and Pokimane while streaming, asking each of them what color Birkin Bag they wanted him to buy for them. All the while, Cenat shows his chat that he is buying the bags from Temu. Temu is a Chinese-owned shopping site similar to AliExpress and is notorious for scams and counterfeit goods. It experienced a wave in popularity earlier this year.

It's notable that Rose was one of the women that Cenat that "treated". She has been an object of affection for a number of streamers in recent weeks. She recently linked up with N3on, with their semi-flirtatious exchanges sparking rumors that the pair were romantically involved. However, she would later refer to him as a "Make-A-Wish Kid" on multiple occasions during their link-up.

Watch Mac DeMarco join Lil Yachty for a huge Coachella set

The two took to the stage at the end of the performance for two tracks

Mac DeMarco and Lil Yachty perform at Coachella 2024

Lil Yachty surprised fans at his huge Coachella set last night (Sunday, April 14) by bringing out Mac DeMarco as a special guest. Check out footage of the moment below.

  • READ MORE: Coachella 2024 liveblog: all of the action as it happens

The American rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer – whose real name is Miles Parks McCollum – took to the stage at the Indio festival last night, in what was the final day of the first weekend.

Initially, the intense set by Yachty kicked off with the rapper performing five back-to-back tracks from his 2023 album, ‘Let’s Start Here’. Walking on the stage as ‘the BLACK seminole’ was played over a tape, he launched into ‘IVE OFFICIALLY LOST ViSiON!!!!’ and ‘THE zone~’, before delivering renditions of ‘pRETTy’ and ‘running out of time’ – which he performed alongside Justine Skye – and ‘drive ME crazy!’.

From there, fan favourites including ‘Flex Up’ and ‘Coffin’ were embedded in the 21 song setlist, as well as covers of BRAM’s ‘Broccoli’ and ‘ON THE RADAR CONCRETE CYPHER’ by Concrete Boys.

However, it was towards the end of the set that Yachty delivered one of the most noteworthy moments – bringing out slacker-pop king Mac DeMarco as a surprise guest.

Here, the two came together to perform two tracks from DeMarco’s discography. The first of which was ‘On The Level’ – taken from DeMarco’s 2017 album  ‘This Old Dog’ – while the second was ‘Chamber Of Reflection’, shared 10 years ago as part of the ‘Salad Days’  LP.

Check out footage of the collaboration below, as well as the full Lil Yachty setlist.

Lil Yachty’s 2024 Coachella setlist was:

‘IVE OFFICIALLY LOST ViSiON!!!!’ ‘THE zone~’ ‘pRETTy’ ‘running out of time’ (with Justine Skye) ‘drive ME crazy!’ ‘Coffin’ ‘Split / Whole Time’ ‘NBAYOUNGBOAT’ ‘Flex Up’ ‘Minnesota’ ‘Get Dripped’ ‘Broccoli’ (DRAM cover) ‘Gimme da Lite’ (Southside & Lil Yachty cover) ‘Poland’ ‘One Night’ ‘Strike (Holster)’ ‘ON THE RADAR CONCRETE CYPHER’ (Concrete Boys song) ‘On the Level’ (with Mac DeMarco) ‘Chamber of Reflection’ (with Mac DeMarco) ‘WE SAW THE SUN!’ ‘the BLACK seminole.’

The collaboration between the rapper and the singer-songwriter last night comes after the two joined forces on Yachty’s aforementioned 2023 album ‘Let’s Start Here’ . In the release, DeMarco is credited as a writer on two tracks – ‘Drive Me Crazy!’ and ‘Failure’.

The album also featured a huge number of additional guests other than DeMarco, including MGMT ’s Ben Goldwasser, Alex G , Daniel Caesar , Fousheé , Teezo Touchdown , Justine Skye and Diana Gordon.

Elsewhere in yesterday’s instalment of Coachella 2024, the night saw sets from Sublime , Blur and No Doubt , before Tyler, The Creator headlined that evening.

Lil Yachty's Label Concrete Boyz set to release their first collaboration project 'It's Us Volume 1' this April

A ccording to NFR Podcast, Lil Yachty's record label, Concrete Boys (also known as Concrete Boyz), is set to release their first collaboration project titled It's Us: Volume 1 on all streaming platforms this April.

NFR's official X account posted on March 25, confirming the release date of the Concrete Boyz project as April 5, 2024. The post also revealed the featured artists, including Lil Yachty, Karrahbooo, Draft Day, DC2Trill, and Camo. The tweet read:

"LIL YACHTY, KARRAHBOOO, DRAFT DAY, DC2TRILL, CAMO!"

The tracklist for the upcoming album is yet to be confirmed, but based on the artists involved in this project, it's likely to showcase a fusion of alternative rock, R&B, and rap.

Lil Yachty and Concrete Boys Discography

Yachty (Lil Boat), who is currently signed to Quality Control, incorporated his own Record Label Concrete Boyz, a few years ago in an attempt to bring upcoming artists in his genre to the spotlight.

Over the years, Yachty and his team have been slowly recruiting rappers and artists from across the music industry, from 31 Camo to Karahbooo, all of whose music appears to have been inspired by Boat's discography.

Lil Yachty has also collaborated with his signees on some of his previous work. Below are two songs officially released alongside Artist Draft Day:

  • Demon Time (Feat. Draft Day)
  • POPOVICH Freestyle (Feat. Draft Day)

On May 29, 2020, Yachty released his fourth studio album, titled Lil Boat 3 , across all DSPs (Digital Streaming Platforms) via Quality Control Music and Motown Records. The 19-track project included a track titled Concrete Boys .

This track acted as the official introduction to the "Concrete Crew" he was building with his record label. The song includes a shout-out to the Concrete Boys in the chorus when Yachty implies that when his "back is against the wall," he can always rely on his crew to come through for him.

Another notable bar from Lil Yachty's song has been listed below:

"I just woke up, dreamin' 'bout the rose (Oh my God) / They had ni**as 'round me who don't stand on toes (Hell nah) / Barely ever do I think about my foes / How much longer will I live? Only God knows."

On December 16, 2023, a song titled Mo Jams was released on the official YouTube channel for Concrete Boys, alongside a music video that featured most of the CB roster, except for 31 Camo. Mo Jams was produced by Rawbone and acts as the first official collaboration between the members of Concrete Boys.

This track, although not being released on DSPs, has garnered significant attention for an upcoming collaboration project by racking up almost 4 million views on YouTube.

As fans await a Concrete Boys collaboration album, Lil Yachty continues to impress fans by following up on his widely acclaimed 2023 project Let's Start Here, which found the rapper delving into a more experimental sound with his music.

Notably, Yachty has been releasing a string of singles, which include his collaboration with Fred Again.. on stayinit. The rapper was also featured on Lyrical Lemonade's debut studio album, All Is Yellow , which dropped two months ago in January 2024.

Coachella Weekend 2 Livestream: An Opinionated Guide on What to Watch

INDIO, CALIFORNIA - APRIL 13: (FOR EDITORIAL USE ONLY) Tyler, the Creator performs at the Coachella Stage during the 2024 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival at Empire Polo Club on April 13, 2024 in Indio, California. (Photo by Arturo Holmes/Getty Images for Coachella)

For more than a dozen years, YouTube’s Coachella livestream has been contemporary music’s greatest showcase: a proving ground for superstars, rising and returning artists — all of whom know they need to bring their A-game — that easily can eat up your entire weekend. “Couchella” stans know that you don’t have to spend thousands of dollars, inhale several pounds of desert dust, run a quarter mile between stages, or even leave your home to witness these world-beating performances.

Popular on Variety

Two notes: Coachella runs very late by festival standards — even Tyler, the Creator (pictured above) said at the beginning of his headlining set, “11:40 p.m.? What the fuck? I wanna go to sleep!” — and it runs on West Coast time, so some sets are better viewed on replay for sanity’s sake.

Also, there have been a few changes to the lineup: Vampire Weekend, who were added late to weekend 1, will not be returning, and neither will 88Rising; Kid Cudi has been added, replacing AP Dhillon; and the new Quasar stage has an entirely different DJ lineup for weekend 2 (sadly minus Jamie XX).

Presented in rough chronological order — all times Pacific — and based on our takes from weekend 1, we recommend the following sets listed below; click on the links on the artists’ names for Variety ‘s full articles on the weekend 1 sets; see the full schedule and YouTube links here .

Young Miko Coachella Stage 4:45 – 5:30 — This fiery young Puerto Rican rapper serves up a diverse set of (mostly) Spanish-language melodic Latin trap.

Chappell Roan Gobi 5:30 – 6:15 — Variety has been on board with the Missouri-bred queen born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz since she dazzled us with a live set in early 2023 , and her set during weekend one had nearly all of her rabid fans in the Gobi tent shouting along with anthems like “Feminomenon,” “Casual” the new “Good Luck Babe!” and especially the defining “Pink Pony Club.”

Sabrina Carpenter Coachella Stage 6:00 – 7:00 — The pop singer has finally reached a crest in her ever-mounting career, which has roots dating back to her Disney days, and it all came together with her first weekend Coachella set. Set against a motel stage design, Carpenter effortlessly breezed through standouts from her breakthrough 2022 album “Emails I Can’t Send” including “Tornado Warnings,” “Fast Times” and, of course, “Nonsense,” where she custom-fitted the ending to honor the occasion: “All about the balls I’m Cinderella / Only use my mouth, that’s acapella / I’m so glad you came for me Coachella.”

Deftones Outdoor Theater 6:45 – 7:35 — This veteran California rock act showed why they’re still as potent as ever nearly 30 years after the release of their debut album: Powerful, melodic rock with solid choruses, big riffs and chest-thumping drums.

Brittany Howard Gobi 6:45 – 7:30 — The former Alabama Shakes frontwoman still does not play any songs from that group’s small catalog, but the tracks from her vibrantly experimental solo albums take on a whole new life in concert — especially “Stay High” and the new one’s title track, “What Now” — thanks to her ace band and her soaring voice.

Peggy Gou Sahara 9:15 – 10: 15 — One of many top DJs at this year’s festival, South Korea-born Gou served up a set of smooth and gloriously driving dance music.

Peso Pluma Coachella Stage 9:05 – 10:10 — The appeal of this fast-rising Mexican-born superstar may not be immediately apparent when listening to his latest album “Genesis” — which is primarily filled with his updated take on traditional corridos — but live, it all makes sense. He’s an electrifying performer, alternating between hip-hop and musica Mexicana, with a commanding voice and presence and a warm rapport with his band and dancers, and the set’s production values are top notch.

Raye Mojave 4:10 – 4:55 — A superstar in her native England, Raye’s concerts can be hit or miss, but she nailed it on weekend one with a rousing set of jazzy alt-R&B culled from her stellar debut full-length, “My 21st Century Blues.”

Grimes Sahara 7:10 – 8:00 — It’s a matter of public record that Grimes’ weekend-one set was an unmitigated disaster , filled with technical difficulties and exasperated exclamations from the Canadian DJ-artist. We’ve seen her before and know she can do much better — and has promised she will for weekend two.

Blur Coachella Stage 7:40 – 8:40 — Coachella’s throwback sets range from triumphant returns (see No Doubt below) to under-rehearsed wish-they-hadn’ts. Unfortunately ‘90s Britpop legends Blur — who played a rousing reunion tour last year that included two ecstatic nights at the 90,000-capacity Wembley Stadium — fell into the latter category, with frontman Damon Albarn yelling at the crowd for their unenthusiastic response to the group’s 30-year-old hit “Boys & Girls.” They’ve got something to prove on weekend two.

Charlotte de Witte Mojave 8:05 – 9:20 — One could attend all three days of Coachella and see nothing but dance music — Belgian DJ de Witte’s set was big on melody and songcraft as well as beats.

Ice Spice Sahara Stage 8:30 – 9:00 — On the precipice of her debut album “Y2K,” Ice Spice brought the bars and booty-shaking to her debut Coachella performance, giving a tour of her small discography during her 30-minute set. All the hits were there — “Princess Diana,” “Munch (Feelin’ U),” “Barbie World” — and for added measure, she debuted a new song that samples Sean Paul’s “Gimme the Light.” The crowd was hanging on her every word, but especially went wild when she showed off her twerk skills.

No Doubt Coachella Stage 9:25 – 10:40 — We will admit that we did not see No Doubt coming — this veteran act’s joyous first concert in nine years was one of the most legendary in the festival’s recent history, tightly rehearsed and filled with energy and fun and a career- and generation-spanning setlist ; their show was reportedly the most well-attended of the festival. After it concluded, three jaded Variety music writers slacked the following comments to each other: “Wow they were fantastic” / “That’s called killing it” / “They could rock the Super Bowl and tour that show for three years.” Insiders say there are no immediate plans for the group to tour after this, so don’t miss it.

Mdou Moctar Gobi 3:30 – 4:10 – Some of the most exciting guitar-based music of this century has come out of West Africa, and Mdou Moctar and his band combine the rhythms and melodies of that region with blazing Hendrix-inspired rock.

Hermanos Gutierrez Sonora 4:50 – 5:40 — It’s hard to imagine that a live performance by this Ecuadorian-Swiss sibling act could be so compelling, but their vividly atmospheric, spaghetti-western-esque instrumentals come to life in a live setting.

Victoria Monét Mojave 6:55 – 7:40 —  Variety cover star and best new artist Grammy winner Victoria Monét stuck to what she does best during her first weekend Coachella performance, giving dancing, vocals and all-around attitude. Her set focused mainly on songs from her “Jaguar” EP and full-length debut “Jaguar II,” and armed with an assortment of backup dancers, she proved once again why she’s a can’t-miss inclusion on the lineup.

Khruangbin Outdoor Theater 7:50 – 8:50 — You probably don’t need us to tell you that this utterly unique Houston trio make some of the most “ vibey ” and instantly identifiable music of any rock-leaning band of recent years — or that Mark Speer is one of the most imaginative guitarists to come down the pike in ages. The group is best in a live setting, and any self-respecting guitarist will be gobsmacked by watching Speer play.

J Balvin Coachella Stage 8:15 – 9:15 — The Colombian superstar’s live sets are always a feast for the eyes, and his set this year could not have been more different from his colorful and kaleidoscopic set from 2019: This one’s elaborately UFO-based theme is initially stark, but gradually gets more and more complex as Balvin soars through his greatest hits, and climaxes with Will Smith appearing before a giant alien head in full “Men in Black” costume , rapping the film’s theme song while Balvin is dragged off by similarly clad agents.

Lil Yachty Mojave 9:20 – 10:10 – One of the most remarkable things about the man born Miles McCollum’s drastic shift in musical direction with his “Let’s Start Here” album is how open to it many of his fans have been: The album’s Pink Floyd-inspired hallucinogenic rock almost could not be further from the Atlanta hip-hop that launched his career, and for his Coachella set, he performed the new material from atop a giant yacht’s prow, and then came down to the main stage for his earlier material — which drove his fans into a frenzy — and then concluded back on board. It’s a refreshing statement of artistic freedom and fan open-mindedness.

Bicep Mojave 10:40 — One challenge about covering dance music is how difficult it is to write about — trust us when we say that this long-running Northern Irish duo knows how to craft an hour of electronic music that’s as compelling as it is danceable.

Taping recap: Lil Yachty

lil yachty live stream

Breaking into stardom after the release of 2016 album Lil Boat featuring popular track “Minnesota”, Atlanta rapper Lil Yachty sailed into the scene with his iconic autotuned vocal style and lighthearted lyricism. Yachty makes his ACL debut with his latest album Let’s Start Here . as the centerpiece , a clear departure from his previous sound. The embodiment of a modernized pop-infused psychedelic funk album with a soul influence, the album reflects a clear tribute to the 70s soul funk scene. The innovative rap star delivered a powerful fifteen-song set backed by a six-piece band, while welcoming special guests, Teezo Touchdown, Justine Skye, and Fousheé aboard the S.S. Yachty for a thrilling musical journey. Yachty’s iconic vocals swim amongst a sea of sound being carried by the god-like vocal performance of the band’s backup singers that invoke a rich, soulful, and dynamic sound worthy of many a moment of sonically-induced goosebumps while listening. He delivered a thrilling performance reflecting the album’s musical breadth, signaling his arrival into an increasingly colorful sound inspired by meaningful musical influences—synthesizers, guitar solos, keyboards, and clap-alongs all included–welcome aboard the S.S. Yachty.

Yachty and crew sail into the first track “the BLACK seminole.” laying the foundation of the psychedelic soul sound that will be representative of the musical foundations laid within the the new record. A slowed down, psychedelic acid jazz-type instrumental that Yachty’s reverbed vocals seemingly weave in and out of, the vocals echo into the night’s first groovy guitar solo. A track that thematically pays homage to the cultural identity of the black psychedelic funk and soul sound, Yachty sings “The black seminole, a head general…a black man with mouths to feed, embracing equality throughout greed.” The rapper takes a moment to recognize the variety of talent that is represented amongst his band–a high energy  all black, female band wearing matching black sweatsuits, bandanas, and shades. The crowd applauds as the musician asserts“I got all my sisters here with me,” indicating his intentional choice of the all-female power band with remarks on the strength of the female talent and citing how “Women rule the world.”

Following that shot of truth, the S.S. Yachty welcomes aboard a trio of special guests. Rising into action, “the ride-”, brings an 80’s inspired synth-sounding pop track featuring vocals from upcoming Beaumont rapper, Teezo Touchdown. Yachty’s light-filled ethereal sounding vocals complement  a contrasting, in your face ‘ vocal performance by Touchdown. The Texas rapper sings holding a hand full of flowers and a head adorned with his signature wig of nails, and graces the stage in a pair of white go-go boots enthusiastically rapping into his bouquet before fist-bumping Yachty during his exit. The pair makes a playful and energetic presence on stage as they vocally bounce off each other, leading the crowd into their first wave of groovy head nodding.

The slow psychedelic sounds of funk are back in the spotlight with “The Zone~” featuring Yachty’s blossoming, kaleidoscope-like vocals that ripple throughout the track before meeting with the funky lightness of guest artist Justine Skye’s R&B inspired vocal style. A track for sailing on auto-pilot, relaxing into the magnetic mellowness of reverbed and distorted guitar and vocal tracks, the S.S. Yachty sails onto seriously smooth waters. Before diving into the climactic disco anthem “drive ME crazy!” the Atlanta rapper singles out a pair of enthusiastic fans in the front row,  The stoked pair cheer as Yachty announces he will dedicate the disco anthem to them, a token of the Captain’s appreciation for his most sunny of sailors. The track reflects the absolute energetic force radiating from the sheer talent produced by the Yachty band. The disco anthem immediately brings an impactful wave of energetic groove amongst the crowd, uplifting the sea of Yachty youngsters. A disco groove irresistible to any seasoned rollbouncer slowly melts into the slowness of the synth sounds of “The Alchemist.”

Bringing  the performance to the  album’s musical climax, the upbeat nature of “The Alchemist.” brings an energetic presence. In typical Yachty fashion, his instinctually uplifting lyricism continues to carry as the foundation to the inherent early and current Yachty sound, singing “No need to brag, but I was built for this. I know now that most men would kill for this.” The track breaks away from the funk foundations and leans towards the pop and R&B undertones still present within the album’s influences. On the Yachty sound spectrum, the rhythmically upbeat pop influence combined with the vocals of his final guest, R&B singer Fousheé, place this track several blocks away from the intersection between psychedelic funk and soul that tends to encompass the record.

Yachty and crew bring a soulful presence fueled by a powerfully talented band of musicians that reflect the identity of the rapper’s musical experimentation inspired by traditional sounds served up a-la-Yachty. The captivating performance mobilized a sea of sing-alongs, head banging, and sheer applause for the massive talent of Lil Yachty and the musical journey. Using his debut ACL taping to showcase a departure from the conventional Yachty style, Lil Boat and crew create waves with a newfound sound that soulfully satisfies.
